Medford School District Teacher Created Fourth Grade Social Science Curriculum:The Curriculum Department worked diligently with a team of fourth grade teachers to create materials for fourth grade Social Science. The process began in 2007-2008 during the district K-12 Social Sciences adoption process. Teacher representatives from all schools reviewed and analyzed Social Science materials for adoption. It became instantly apparent that there were no printed materials available from publishers that addressed the Oregon State standards for fourth grade Social Science. The major focus for fourth grade is the state of Oregon. It was at this time two fourth grade teachers suggested writing curriculum materials for our fourth grade teachers. Working with the curriculum department the two teachers, Anna Meunier and Sarah Flora, began crafting and writing curriculum that directly addressed the Oregon Standards. Combining their years of classroom experience and activities they have used in the past, the two authored seven units during the 2008-2009 school year. The Curriculum Department has had all units professionally edited and acquired appropriate copyrights for materials and photos used.
This in-depth process has resulted in the following materials that are written and recently updated to address the new 2011 fourth grade Oregon standards for Social Science. The curriculum will be posted on our district internet so that any school in Oregon may access this rich curriculum free of charge.
